[Clarence House 11 April 2022] To mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Canada in May 2022.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will meet local communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada’s Capital Region, and the Northwest Territories.

Are you interested in piping or drumming with the Northwest Territories Pipe Band for the 2018-2019 season?  Are you a player?  Do you want to learn how to play the Great Highland Bagpipes or Highland Drumming?  There will be an information session in September 2018 at Northern United Place Auditorium (details to be posted later this year).   In this relaxed atmosphere you can meet the current members and join the Band or sign up for lessons.

The Northwest Territorial Pipeband is currently in the throes of building a new website.  Please bear with us as we figure out how to do this.

Covid restrictions on playing wind instruments indoors were lifted in the NWT as of April 1. The Band has already started practising in person, carrying out maintenance and rebuilding our stamina.  New tunes are now being practised on the pipes, including Diu Regnare (Queen's Platinum Jubilee) for June 2, 2022 (The Queen's Platinum Jubilee).

Are you interested in learning to play the Great Highland Bagpipes? Lessons for adults begin 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12th in Yellowknife. In addition to offering group piping lessons for adults, the NWTPB also has an experienced piper willing to teach private lessons for youth in her home.

We are one of the few bands that offer basic lessons.

The Northwest Territorial Pipe Band is currently learning a new bagpiping tune Diu Regnare, composed by well-known Scottish piper Stuart Liddell.

This tune was composed specifically for the platinum anniversary of the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2, on June 2, 1952 (so the anniversary is a sunset on June 2, 2022).

The plan is for the Band to play this tune at sunset on June 2, 2022.

The first link below includes the sheet music and a sound file of the tune on the pipes.  The second link is the tune with a drum score.  Pipers and drummers who intend to play this tune should register at on the third website listed.  The remaining sites relate to activities for the Platinum Jubilee and the last site is a reminder of the role of the Governor General, the Queen's representative for Canada.

The NWT Pipe Band will take part in the City of Yellowknife's Community Showcase in September 2018 in the Multiplex Gym (details will be posted as they're available). This is a great chance to learn more about the NWT Pipe Band, join the band (if you already play the pipes or drums) or sign up for piping or drumming lessons (if you're 19 years or older).
