The Northwest Territorial Pipe Band has been serving the community of Yellowknife for over 50 years.  It is made up of musicians who freely volunteer their time and talent to the group. Our members do not receive payment for band performances.  As with all organizations, we have costs involved in keeping us going.  As a not-for-profit, we do not make profits but that does not mean we run at a loss or burden our members with all the costs.

We rely on grants, donations, fundraising and payment for performances to meet the requirements of operating a band, such as equipment, uniforms, instruments, workshops and instruction etc. For example a kilt alone costs around $900.  Kilts need to be adjusted, repaired and dry-cleaned now and then.  A set of pipes costs around $1,500.  Most pipers purchase their own pipes (so this is a cost to them).  A new drum is around $900 (and the band does pay for that).  A workshop with instructors is also very expensive and typically lasts for a weekend.  Funds acquired by the band are used to keep it operating.

Many performances are available without charge to the community, however we do request payment for private performances.
